Ένα λυρικό πορτρέτο της Κάο Θι Χάου, που γεννήθηκε πριν από εξήντα χρόνια σε μια σπηλιά, στη μικρή κοινότητα των Ρουκ, η οποία κινδυνεύει να χαθεί. Οι σκηνοθέτες Τρουόνγκ Μινχ Κουί και Νικολά Γκρό την ακολουθούν, μαζί με τον εγγονό της, στα ομιχλώδη βουνά του Κουάνγκ Μπιν στο Βιετνάμ, όπου η γλώσσα επιβιώνει μέσα από τις φωνές των παλαιοτέρων. Γυρισμένο σε φιλμ 16mm, το έργο μεταμορφώνει τη μνήμη σε οπτικό αρχείο επιβίωσης, που κυλά, όπως το νερό, προς τη λήθη. «Η γλώσσα του κινηματογράφου έχει αλλάξει», σημειώνει ο Κουί, «αλλά εξακολουθεί να υπάρχει κάτι βαθιά ανθρώπινο μέσα της». Βραβευμένο με τη Χρυσή Λεοπάρδαλη, την Ειδική Μνεία Pardo Verde και το Boccalino d’Oro για Καλύτερη Φωτογραφία στο Φεστιβάλ του Λοκάρνο.

A lyrical portrait of Cao Thị Hậu, who was born sixty years ago in a cave, within the small Ruc community ‒ a people on the verge of disappearance. Filmmakers Trương Minh Quý and Nicolas Graux follow her, together with her grandson, through the misty mountains of Quảng Bình in Vietnam, where the language survives in the voices of the elders. Shot on 16mm film, the work transforms memory into a visual archive of survival, flowing ‒like water‒ toward oblivion. “The language of cinema has changed”, notes Quý, “but there’s still something profoundly human within it”. Awarded the Golden Leopard, the Pardo Verde Special Mention, and the Boccalino d’Oro for Best Cinematography at the Locarno Film Festival.
